Welcome
LandK (Luigi & Kate) was born when Luigi Agnelli and Kate Bray met by accident in Arezzo.
Luigi, born in Arezzo, skipper and sales manager, had just opened his first exhibition, when Kate, an archaeologist and architectural historian from England, called in on a wet and cold November evening.
Intrigued by his pen and ink drawings and even more so by the man himself, it was love at first sight for them both. One evening not long after, Kate, sitting next to Luigi, instinctively took a pen and started to draw alongside him. Without having to say a word, they knew that something special was evolving before their eyes. From that moment on, they drew whenever they could and started to travel with their exhibition called ‘The Story of Life’.
Self-taught, learning by drawing, using fine-liner ink pens, their subject matter is vast, ranging from pure fantasy to cityscapes, nature in all its forms, metaphors of life and the stories of real people illustrated on a 100x70cm piece of cotton paper. From purely black and white, to a dash of red to catch the eye, or highly colourful with touches of gold and silver, everyone who visits their exhibitions finds something that speaks to them. Their signature, ‘the black and white cats’, represents Yin and Yang, light and shadow and the two different characters of Kate and Luigi.
Kate and Luigi eventually married and toured the world with their exhibition, drawing together wherever they went but also working on individual pieces. After many happy years of living and drawing together, Luigi very sadly passed away after a long illness, though he kept drawing throughout and remained enthusiastic and full of ideas, the act of drawing giving him much joy and a release from the pain. Kate continues to create the art they begun together, a gift too precious to let go, a passion that keeps Luigi alive. Her drawings, in the same familiar style, are always signed with both their names and the with ‘the black and white cats’ looking on. LandK continues its journey…

Luigi Agnelli
Luigi was born in Arezzo in Tuscany in 1959. He always drew but never went to art school. He actually studied law. He worked for many years as sales director for major companies in Italy but later fulfilled his passion for sailing as a skipper throughout the Mediterranean. After a long illness, he passed away peacefully on 25th November 2023.

Kate Bray
Kate was born in England, where she worked as an archaeologist and architectural historian. She has lived in Italy for many years and met Luigi in his home town of Arezzo. Soon after starting to draw together, Kate and Luigi realized they had something very unique and special to share with the world - and LandK was born. Kate continues to draw in the style they developed together and exhibit their work in Italy and around the world.
